![]() Imagine having to write something like Ben Forcing the developer to include "phone" or "zip" in numeric input fields is going to lead to very poorly named form fields. I really don't like how the iPhone is handling this. I believe that this extremely small change in the user interface is going to have an extremely HUGE impact on the user experience. And, sure enough, the input fields now default to the iPhone's numeric keyboard! Aside from the fact that this is a really ganky fix, I am extremely pumped to have gotten to the bottom of this. Luckily, my fitness software doesn't actually use the input field names (but rather their placement within the form) so the programming logic did not need to be updated. So, I went into Dig Deep Fitness and added "_zip" to my weight and reps input field. However, after further Googling, it seems that this is the only available formatting option. I didn't immediatly try this on Dig Deep Fitness since it's a fitness application and has nothing to do with phone numbers or zip codes and this would feel very misaligned with the goal of my software. Apparently, if you include "phone" or "zip" in the input field name, then the iPhone will default to the numeric keyboard. After a while, I found some information about input naming on the iPhone. And so, I set off to Google for some answers. ![]() There didn't seem to be anything that would make the input default to the iPhone's numeric keypad. I was expecting to see some cool CSS or META tags or even a Safari-proprietary tag attribute. ![]() Here is the HTML for their ZIP intake form: The first thing I did was switch my FireFox's User Agent to mimic the iPhone and checked out Fandango's iPhone site. This morning, I was determined to figure out how this was happening. And yep, sure enough, I was presented with the numeric keyboard again. I had to cancel out of the input and then click on the text box again, just to make sure that I wasn't imagining what I had just seen. When I went to enter my zip code location, I clicked on the input and was immediately presented with the iPhone's numeric keyboard!! I almost couldn't believe my eyes. I thought all was lost and that I would have to suffer with the default Alpha keyboard but then, this weekend, I went to, which redirected me to - their iPhone optimized mobile site (which is extremely well done, by the way). I did find information on the -wap-input-format CSS property, which allows you to restrict formatting of text input fields, but these seemed to be ignored by the iPhone! When I first started building this iPhone fitness software, I looked for a way to default the iPhone's keyboard to the numeric one, but I couldn't find anything. This adds like 50% more clicking than is unnecessary and the keyboard input is quite misaligned with the goal of the user experience. ![]() As I have been using my Dig Deep Fitness iPhone fitness application over the last few months, I have noticed a few things that need to be improved one of the biggest points of friction is the fact that 98% of the text input in the application is numeric and yet, every time I click on an input field, I am presented with the iPhone's Alpha keyboard, which I then have switch over to the numeric keyboard. ![]() PlayStation 5 has opened new doors for us to retell this story, allowing opportunities to add new content and features that were previously unattainable. Visit the official page for Observer: System Redux here.Everyone here at Bloober Team is thrilled to bring you our next-gen horror game, Observer: System Redux. It can be overwhelming – it takes about eight hours to complete, it only gets stranger as it goes, and you may need to take several breaks in order to escape the dark insanity of it all.īut it’s well worth exploring, even as it gives you nightmares. It’s the Eraserhead baby, the Space Odyssey stargate, and the opening of Bergman’s Persona all rolled into one. For a mainstream video game, this is about the most experimental – and therefore exciting – I’ve ever seen. Poor ole Rutger, who delivered such a memorable performance in Blade Runner, seems out of his depth here, mumbling through key dialogue and seeming generally unenthusiastic.īut that’s hardly a damning indictment of Observer. The late Rutger Hauer’s marble-mouthed performance doesn’t help either. But there are sections of Observer where I truly don’t understand where I am, what I’m doing, or why. Like, I get the grand picture, and the overarching mystery is comprehensible. For one thing, I’m still not entirely sure what’s happening at any given moment. That said, there are times when Bloober Team – and Observer – are needlessly confusing. But none of it lasts long enough to quite understand what you’re looking at, let alone capture a review-friendly screenshot. Sometimes, the game will glitch out entirely, replaced by TV “static” or a 2D image of a Gigeresque monstrosity. Enemies aren’t just big and scary they have a nasty habit of shattering into a thousand pieces and re-forming directly on your face. Hallways aren’t just dark they distort in strange ways as you walk through them. If nothing else, they are masters of atmosphere. I’m a big fan of Poland-based Bloober Team, developers of Observer and other surreal titles like Layers of Fear (our review here). The point of Observer is to throw you off-kilter. It’s slightly less difficult to navigate than it sounds, but not by much. Walls explode, shadowy figures zig-zag across the screen, and you might see a separate level architecture “superimposed” on the one you’re walking in. The screenshots hardly do it justice: it’s not until you’re running from a shadow monster while the walls shatter around you and the floor drops away, that you really come to accept the insanity.Īnd all this happens very quickly: within the space of thirty seconds, you might bounce through a dozen different landscapes from twenty different perspectives. While its opening hour superficially resembles a detective game, replete with Batman-style “Detective Vision”, it’s not long before you’re inundated with nightmarish shadow monsters, techo-organic snakes, and ever-shifting landscapes that refuse to obey the laws of physics. It’s hard to describe just how strange Observer gets. In doing so, players access the confused, disturbing jumble of thoughts and memories that live in people’s heads – Psychonauts this ain’t. But really, that’s just an excuse to throw players into a series of increasingly bizarre mindscapes, thanks to Lazarki’s ability to “hack” brains. Nominally, you star as the Rutger Hauer-voiced detective Daniel Lazarski, investigating a series of murders in a near-future apartment complex. Observer: System Redux is a marvellously confusing game. That said, for the sheer experimental audacity on display, I highly encourage even the mildly interested to check it out. Whether you find the above descriptor appealing or appalling will likely inform your interest in this game. The 2017 cyberpunk-horror-madhouse has just received a very welcome next-gen remaster, making it easily one of the most disturbing games on modern consoles. There are a handful of games that might be called Lynchian, but very few that could rightly be called Lynchian-at-his-most-surreal- The Return, Part 8-wildest. If you liked Blade Runner, and you can stomach some disturbing imagery, you’ll enjoy this. Houdini 1.5 allows programmers to fully customize the software including variations of the engine’s movements, combinations of moves, and even the number of pieces it uses. As a beginner, I believe it’s better for someone to ask and learn from other people.Īnyone with a windows computer can use Houdini, but having a background in Stockfish or other chess engines will definitely help. But also, a lot of things were added into it, so if you want to learn all the syntax you have to look them up. Houdini is mostly difficult to use one reason being that the syntax is very complicated. This ability is what I believe makes Houdini such a strong chess engine. It uses this to fill in the holes in its opponent’s defense and create a strong position. Houdini also has a commendable use of closing moves at its disposal. It may move its king from one place to another without wasting time on anything but winning the game by advancing its pawn structure towards a winning position. Houdini will try to win by making many pawn moves that are either coordinated or even sacrifices. But it is also extremely well-balanced and strong. It has weaknesses, like the power of its pieces being weak or it getting into an endgame where it can’t make any useful movements. The playing style of Houdini is very strong and consistent. I believe that even with this style Houdini is still strong. Of course, with enough knowledge and experience, this can be changed. It normally opens up with the Sicilian defense and tries to castle long and end up in an endgame. Houdini has a very predictable way of playing. All versions after 2.0 are strictly for commercial use, which helps to sustain the business behind Houdini, known as Cruxis. Unlike Stockfish, which is available for all to use and modify, only versions 1.5a and earlier are available for noncommercial use. It is one of the strongest chess playing softwares and the world’s first commercially successful computer chess product. Houdini is a chess engine that was developed by Robert Houdart and others, built on the backbone of open source engines such as Stockfish and Crafty. ![]() The combination of the gemstone, diamond, and metal borders on perfection, instantly giving a minimalist ring a timeless look.įor any ladies out there who value exclusive styles with a classic twist, MiaDonna is your ideal choice. The diamonds also were not acquired through or financed any civil war. The same statistics further explained that 3–4 million people had died because of diamond mining and countless more because of the civil wars.Ĭonflict-free diamond rings mean that the diamond encased in that ring is not mined and shipped from any country or supplier with connections to terror or supply groups. Statistics released by the Statistic Brain Research Institute showed that 4 percent of the world’s diamonds were conflict diamonds, a number that has grown substantially. The diamonds that came from such areas became known as blood diamonds or conflict diamonds. Rebel groups fought to gain power over diamond-rich mines, terrorist groups used diamonds to fund their moves, and suppliers fueled civil wars so that they could get their hands on the most prominent stock. But to meet this demand, many suppliers in different countries, throughout time, unfortunately, resorted to unethical and inhumane practices. Because of that-and the jewelry industry-the demand for diamonds has been at an all-time high. Countries such as Botswana, Angola, South Africa, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Namibia are just some of the diamond mining countries.ĭiamonds, as an investment, are lucrative and can go up in value over time.
